Abstract

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently released a report warning that even a global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels would be life threatening for millions of people, stressing the urgency to cut CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 (and reach carbon neutrality by 2050). In this context where incremental innovation will not be sufficient, this GRS aims to gather the concrete specialists of tomorrow to envision and discuss the drastic shifts necessary for the cement and concrete technologies to meet such ambitious (but necessary) sustainability goals. Graduate students, postdocs and young professional are invited to present their contributions to the field, including their vision for the future of the industry. The call for abstracts is open to the different fields of cement and concrete science and technology: from novel binders with low-CO2 footprint and CO2 sequestering systems, to extending service life of concrete structures, including the recycling and optimal use of resources, the development of highly efficient concrete solutions for specific applications, the life-cycle assessment of these solutions, low-carbon design and construction methods and other out-of-the-box carbon-neutral approaches. Attending this GRS represents a good opportunity for young researchers not only to share ideas about the future of concrete, but also to attend the associated GRC (for which applications are strongly encouraged). Furthermore, financial support may be available for selected presenters and/or exceptional attendees coming from abroad. Please contact conference organizers for more details.
